What that actually means
Watching another tutorial when you haven't finished your last project isn't learning, it's procrastination with a better excuse. The students who improve fastest are the ones who ship something imperfect this week over the ones who watch one more explainer video first.
Post before it's perfect
My own GitHub has 24 public repos, and not one of them started polished. Show your process, not just your successes — a messy repo with a real README is worth more to a recruiter than a portfolio site with three perfect, finished-looking demos and no visible struggle behind them.
Why this scales to mentoring 200 people
I can't give 200 students individual code review every week. I can give them one operating principle that works whether I'm in the room or not — and "create more than you consume" is the one that has held up.
