Most agencies run on a spreadsheet and a prayer. At SCULT INDIA, where I'm CTO and Co-Founder, I designed and built SCULT Studio, the internal CRM and operations platform our 14-member cross-functional team runs project delivery, client communication and operations through.
Why build instead of buy
Generic project-management tools model generic projects. An AI-first software studio's actual bottleneck — client scope changes, deployment handoffs, revenue tracking against delivery milestones — doesn't map cleanly onto a Kanban board built for anyone. Building it ourselves meant the tool fit the way we actually work, not the other way round.
What it does
- Tracks every client engagement from scope to delivery.
- Gives leadership a live view of revenue and delivery status without a weekly status meeting.
- Is the reason we could ship 5+ paid, production-grade products and generate roughly ₹1,00,000 in revenue within the first six months without the coordination overhead eating the margin.
The lesson for any small team
The best internal tool is the one that disappears into the workflow. Nobody at SCULT thinks of Studio as "the CRM" — it's just how work happens. That's the bar: if your team has to remember to use the tool, the tool is wrong.
